There are many reasons the Browns lost last night (They suck, the defense is awful, they suck, Winslow ruined is great game by going all Braylon Edwards on us, they suck, penalties, they suck, no pass rush, they suck, Brandon McDonald not only can’t cover anyone but also idolizes BE, they suck), but I’m just going to concentrate on one of them; the coaching/play calling.
Third-and-1, 58 seconds to go, the defense in a three man line, expecting the pass, why don’t you run the ball? Fourth-and-1, you need a first down to continue the game, run the ball. Run it with your big back. Run it with your fast back-up back. Run it with your kick returner who is ran it well for three times. But no. That would make too much sense. Shotgun formation on third down. Incomplete pass. Shotgun on fourth. Incomplete pass. Game over. Yes, Winslow should have caught the ball but still, you make the smart call and run the ball and you get a first down. With two time outs there was plenty of time. After second down, the Browns hurried to the line. If Brady gets under center and just sneaks it on that three man line when they aren’t ready, he gets 5 yards easily. But they didn’t and that comes back to coaching and preparation. The offense needs to know they only need a yard and a quick QB sneak or hand-off gets you that. Just piss poor.
Piss poor is a compliment to the defense. In fact, if they were playing piss poor, they’d be playing better. They are the worst defense I’ve ever seen. No pass rush, no one who can guard anyone. Just awful all around. Denver didn’t even have a running back and the Browns still couldn’t stop them. I’d rather have Sean Taylor in his current state of corpsing than any of the Browns defensive backs. Taylor would cover better than that.
And piss poor is exactly what the Browns look like right now and how the fans feel about them. I’ve left that stadium many times disappointed/pissed/shocked/sad but last night I have never seen/heard fans madder than that.
OK, enough of that. At least the Browns don’t have to play on national TV any more. Oh, wait…
On to the football weekend.
Big games in the college ranks…
North Carolina vs Georgia Tech – If the Browns fire The Chocolate Dumpling, think we can bring Butch Davis back?
Alabama at LSU, Texas Tech vs Oklahoma State, Penn State at Iowa – I wouldn’t be surprised if all three the top teams lose this weekend. Also wouldn’t be surprised if they all win by 45 but had to throw out the tri-fecta upset alert.
Michigan at Minnesota – I remember the good old days when I had at least Michigan football to look forward to when the Browns sucked. Now I got a crappy team to watch on Saturday and a piss poor team on Sunday. LET’S GO CAVS!!!
WEEK 10 NFL GAMES (8-6 last week for a season total of 69-55. Oh and for you Ohio State fans, yes, they’ll beat Northwestern. Happy?)
DENVER at Cleveland – I have a feeling it’s going to be a good debut of Brady but the defense and coaching is going to let him down and the Browns have a deja vu of last week, blowing a big lead in the fourth quarter.
ATLANTA vs New Orleans – I’m all on the Falcon bandwagon (so that means they’ll probably lose). Michael Turner, for whatever reason, is much better at home than he is on the road. Big game for him.
TENNESSEE at Chicago – Sexy Rexy is back. No way can you pick the Bears to win.
DETROIT vs Jacksonville – The Jaguars may be the only team more disappointing than the Browns. Welcome back Culpepper.
MIAMI vs Seattle – Maybe the easiest game to pick. Not only do you have the West coast team coming East for a 1:00 game, but it’s Seattle coming east and they suck.
MINNESOTA vs Green Bay – When did the Vikings become a passing team? When Gus Frerotte remember he is a stud, that’s when.
NEW ENGLAND vs Buffalo – Buffalo is the Michigan State of the NFL. Start strong, look like they are going to be good, then fall faster than a ball being throw to Braylon.
NY JETS vs St. Louis – Steven Jackson probably isn’t playing. Who else is on the Rams?
BALTIMORE at Houston – I really want Houston to win but Sage Rosenfels is starting and how can you pick a team to win when the quarterback single-handedly blew a 21 point lead in three minutes early in the year.
CAROLINA at Oakland – Come on. This was easier to pick than the Broncos over the Browns.
INDIANAPOLIS at Pittsburgh – So I’m picking this one more out of hatred than clear football thinking. Plus I need Peyton to have a huge game because my fantasy got smoke yesterday by Cutler and Royal. Thanks Brandon McDonald. You owe me $50 for my entry fee.
KANSAS CITY at San Diego – Jamaal “that’s two A’s, not one” Charles and Tyler Thigpen are the real deal and leading KC on a second half surge.
PHILADELPHIA vs NY Giants – Phily is playing great. Tackles are even catching TD pass. The Giants putting Sticky Helmet Tyree on the IR is a bad omen.
ARIZONA vs San Francisco – I hope Mike Singletary get so upset at his horrible team that he moons someone or goes Woody Hayes and hits someone on the sideline.
