Contrary to reports, Danny Ferry is not spending the summer chasing ice cream trucks, touring the country finding the best water parks, watching marathons of Animaniacs or watching highlight film of his days in the Cavs uniform thinking what a good deal Cleveland got when they traded Ron Harper. Ferry is actually working. He is looking for ways to make the Cavs better. He is looking for talent. And not at the local Chuck E. Cheese where the employees simply know him as D-Fer and he is know to spend hours eating pizza in front of the Pop-A-Shot game hoping he finds a shooter. I guess Ferry has actually been working the NBA ranks looking for guys to help out the Cavs. I believe Ferry found a good player who will fit in with the Cavs.
Ferry traded for Mo Williams. I’ve always like Mo Williams. He isn’t a pure point guard and he is erratic, but he can score and that’s what the Cavs need the most.
I fell like I say this, and everyone says this, every time the Cavs make a move: At least their trying to improve the team. When Larry Hughes was signed, everyone thought it was a good move and he would be Pippen to our Jordan. He wasn’t. Instead, Hughes went on to kill hundreds of kittens and prove you don’t have to be tough to get 584 tattoos. When Hughes was shipped off to Chicago in the “mega” trade, most Cleveland fans said “yippy!” More so because Hughes was gone but we were also intrigued, if nothing else, about Ben Wallace, Joe Smith, Wally Sczerbiackaslkjack and Delonte West. The verdict is still out on that move but it didn’t get the Cavs deep in the post season so for now it’s just an average move.
This Williams move may be the best move of the three. Not only is Williams a guard who can shoot, score, create his own shot and create shots for others, but he was a Cavs killer. Every time the Cavs played the Bucks, he torn up Cleveland. At least now he is on our team. He just seems like a good fit but time will tell.
This trade all but guarantees another. It leave the bigs down to three; Z, Andy, and Ben. Z is old and slowing down. Andy and Ben can’t score. Plus Andy wants a big contract after this year and he just isn’t worth it so he may be gone after this year any way. There is J.J. Hickson but I don’t think we’ll see much, if any, of him this year. The Cavs need another big. Ferry said another move is possible. It shouldn’t be possible, it should be definite.
In the mean time, let’s appreciate that Ferry pulled himself out of Chuck E. Cheese and found a good player. A player who should fit in with the Cavs and be a nice piece to play along LeBron. Ferry, good work to you. Now you are allowed to go back to your pizza eating. But do yourself a favor; order in and fire up you DVR to your Animaniacs.
