What a waste it all has been. All the news breaks, the constant bottom line updates, and the lead stories on SportsCenter. All the arguments on PTI and around the horn; also meaningless. And how about all those four person reporting staffs, all covering the same story from the same place. Yep, those were a waste too and I think I feel sorry for them the most. It all has been for nothing. In fact, the last five months have been a waste. The press conference, the tears, the triumphs. All of it. It all meant nothing.
Brett Favre is back with the Packers. (All the creative headline writers are so happy they have an original rhyming headline to use in some for of “Back with the Pack.” Way to go guys. You are really earning your paycheck now.) I don’t know if I ever official declared it on J Beanie, but when I talked about the situation, I said Favre would be Green Bay’s starting quarterback. (I also said when Favre retired, he would stay retired.) This whole situation was a joke. As much as Favre mistreated the situation, I think the real ones to screw it up was the Packers officials. I think just about everyone say this coming. Either as soon as Favre retired or as soon as it was reported he wanted to come back. How do the Packers not know this? I get moving on to the Aaron Rodgers era but when Favre wanted to come back how can you not accept him? Did they really think a guy with as many career starts in the NFL and you and me combined gave the team a better chance to win? If Favre didn’t retire, he would have been the starting quarterback, so why does that change just because he retired and unretired? It was a pretty crappy move by Favre to wait this long but he still is Brett Favre and as much as you may not like him or what you think of his game, he is better for the Packers than Rodgers. If you are a GBP player, in the huddle, in a meaningful game, in the fourth quarter, down five, who would you want leading that huddle? Favre or Rodgers.
Brett Favre will be the starting quarterback for the Packers this year, just like last year and the 16 before that. Because of that, it makes me pissed off at Favre for dragging this out and even more mad at the origination for not doing what they should have done more than a month ago and welcome Favre back.
In other football news, how great was it to actually see football on TV last night. I know it was preseason and we knew maybe 4 1/2 of the players on the field but it was still nice to see. To me, this officially marks the end of baseball season.
Mike Hart got a lot of playing time in the third quarter. I know it was against a bunch of scrubs but he looked good. He is going to be a good player for the Colts . By the end of the year, he’ll be Joseph Addai’s back-up, not Dominic Rhodes.
