Before we get to football, a couple of things. First, sorry for no post yesterday. I was actually busy and just didn’t feel like writing one (and Graig, I don’t think that was necessary). Second, there were two great basketball games on last night; Cavs at Spurs and Ohio at Akron.
The OU-UA game was great a multiple levels. It was a back-and-forth game that ended 55-54 with a crazy tip in by Akron and a missed game winner by OU. Of course, as a Bobcat alum, I wanted them to win but I just enjoyed watching the game. The main reason was because our old friend, Michael Reghi was doing the play-by-play. Man, do I miss that guy. It make me hate Fred McLoud so much more. Reghi is so good and his voice, not going to lie, it kind of turns me on. Still don’t understand why the Cavs fired him.
(Speaking of MAC basketball, Graig, what happened to your RedHawks? Remember when you thought they’d be good because they beat Xavier, Mississippi State and played USC tough? Now they’ve last five in a row. Better make a call to your boy Charlie.)
I was switching back and forth from the OU game to the Cavs game. It was a great win by the Cavs 90-88 over the Spurs. It kind of makes you think that maybe they are over the hump of mediocrity. LeBron made the game winner, Boobie made a huge three and Larry Hughes didn’t kill too many kittens (if you don’t know what the means go to http://www.heylarryhughespleasestoptakingsomanybadshots.com) But more than likely, it doesn’t mean a thing. Sure it’s a nice win but its pretty much worthless. The Cavs have beat the Spurs four times in a row during the regular season. Yippy. We saw how much that matters in June last year.
On to the NFL Championship weekend.
It the winners are anyone other than the Patriots and Packers, there might as well not be a Super Bowl because no one will really care. Good news is, I just can’t see the Super Bowl being anyone but the NEP and GBP (of course, that could be bad news since I’m horrible and predicting these things). The Chargers have a chance only because they have a defense that is really playing well but can anyone really stop all the weapons the NEP have? And there’s no way San Diego can outscore the Patriots no matter who’s at QB or if LDT plays. As for the Packers, I said it Monday, the mystic of Lambeau Field and Brett Favre is back. With temperatures in the single digits, no way the Giants go in there and win. Plus, they still have Eli Manning as their quarterback and I don’t know how he has been playing as well as he has been the past three weeks but he’s due to come back to earth. I mean, how long can one go with throwing passes with his eyes closed before it catches up to him? He’ll pull a Sergio Garcia and blow this game somehow.
That should set up the greatest Super Bowl of all time. The NEP looking to cap a perfect 19-0 season against the team (quarterback) everyone in America will be rooting for. It just makes too much sense for the NFL not to have this game. Who ever wins, there would be a great story. Let’s hope this happens.
