It’s a big weekend in college football. Three games feature top 25 match-ups; Michigan plays a team they should/could beat, maybe; a Big Ten match-up for first place between two normally last place teams and a huge match of 1-5 teams in the MAC.
Tonight’s game
Clemson at Wake Forest - Now that Clemson is a disappointment (can they really be a disappointment when everyone knew they were overrated and saw them blowing the season?) they’ll start playing good and run the table in the ACC earning the worst BCS conference’s spot in an BCS bowl. How long until the remove the BSC conference label? The WAC and Sun Belt have teams better than the top ACC teams.
Saturday
Texas vs Oklahoma - The big game. The Red River Shootout. The downfall of Mack Brown. The Sooners are too good. Mack Brown only wins this game when he has Vince Young and doesn’t have to coach. Colt McCoy may have the coolest name in football, but he is not Vince Young (college football VY not NFL Vince who cries and tries to kill himself when he gets booed). I see Oklahoma going undefeated at least until they play Missouri in the Big 12 championship.
Oklahoma State at Missouri - I just can’t take the Cowboys seriously as a top team. Chase Daniel will prove that.
LSU at Florida - My second and third favorite teams in the country. I think LSU pounds the Gators but I really don’t care. These teams have each brought me joy the last two January’s that I hope they both win.
Penn State at Wisconsin - Wisconsin is going to lose their third straight. But who I really feel sorry is the bladder control old man JoePa. Penn State is going to go undefeated this year, and again, like 1994 (I think), be left out of the national title picture. (That’s because one of Oklahoma or Missouri and either Alabama or LSU will go undefeated keeping Penn State left out.)
Ohio at Kent State - Anyone of my Kent State friends want to go see the match-up between our 1-5 schools? No. Me neither.
Michigan State at Northwestern - Did you know Northwestern is undefeated? Well when you play Syracuse, Duke, Southern Illinois, Ohio and Iowa, that’s not too hard but still, it’s Northwestern. Michigan State has won four straight since their season opening loss to Cal. People are jumping back on Sparty’s bandwagon. I ask why? This game starts MSU down their yearly midseason five-game losing streak and Northwestern finds themselves on top of the Big Ten standings.
Toledo at Michigan - Michigan should get a win. Should is different then will. How can you ever guarantee a UM this year? Normally a MAC game for Michigan would get their back-ups excited because they had a good chance to get in the game during garbage minutes of a blowout win. Now, they have a good chance to get in the game because the starters suck and will be losing at halftime. When you are nervous about a MAC game, welcome to Michigan football 2008.
I would say you could throw the Big East in with the ACC to have their BCS conference status revoked. Pitt along with their terrible coach are in the driver seat to win that conference.
Colt McCoy as the name of a Texas quarterback is about the most fitting name I can think of. I agree that Mack Brown has never won a big game without VY as his quarterback and I think they go down by 2 touchdowns.
I think MSU might be for real this year. The Buckeyes come calling next weekend in what could be the start of huge back to back games for the Bucks, at MSU then home against Penn St.
It’s going to a big 16-13 win for the Maize and Blow this weekend.
Oklahoma State is ranked 17th, not really a top team.
I kind of like Texas this weekend. McCoy is a stud. I don’t know Texas/ Oklahoma geography, but wouldn’t you think that Dallas is a lot closer to Austin than Norman?
Who did Ohio U beat? It had to have been last week if they won.
Yeah, Dallas seems like a weird place to play that game. Why do they have to do that? Both campuses and stadium have to kick ass so why would they take such a huge game, year-after-year, away from that atmosphere. It’d be like playing Michigan-Ohio State in Cincy. Doesn’t make sense.
OU beat Virginia Military two weeks ago. Maybe it should only count as a half win.
Had to chime in about the neutral site. Supposively it is truely neutral and it draws about 50-50 fanbase. My boss is a Boomer Sooner alum. Another question would be, why are they playing at noon? Does it truelly start at noon? Dallas is 2 hours behind us I believe so they start at 10 am? The stadium is not in a good area at all, so I am sure that is why they are starting early. Gotta get the game in before the gangstas wake up.
Beanie. I think it’d be more like OSU playing UM in Toledo. Also, Georgia and Florida play at a neutral site every year. Not sure why they ALWAYS do neutral sites though. I guess they are trying to start a tradition. I’d be pissed if I was a student.
Hate to say it, but W’s right. According to Mapquest, Dallas is 3 hours 17 minutes from Norman, and 3 hours 15 minutes from Austin. Almost directly in the middle of the two.
A game at 10 would suck ass. You have to get up at 5 to tailgate. Or not sleep Friday night, which I bet a lot of people do.
Texas is only an hour behind us so it’s on at 11 their time.
Toledo is not really halfway as it’s about 30 minutes from Ann Arbor. It would be like playing the OSU/UM game at Findlay.
so W is allowed to talk and now the discussion is where would a hypothetical neutral game be played between UM and OSU? Really?
And speaking of BCS revokating, there is an actually formula that would revoke BCS status if your league sucks too bad but its done every 5 years and is based on average BCS ranking of teams and average ranking of best team and some others i forgot so basically the average of all teams will keep the conferences the same since the worst ACC will be ranked higher than worst WAC
Thanks for the interesting geography/time zone lesson today guys.
The lessons here at J Beanie are endless.
Wow Graig…impressive geographic skills. Findlay is the exact mid way point. You didn’t know that off the top of your head, did you? I liked the NHL preview by the way. Columbus is in too good of a division to make the playoffs, although I think they changed the schelduing this year so that you play less divisonal games. Red Wings kick off there season tonight. Not a bold prediction, but they will win back-to-back Stanley Cups!
Saying the Wings are going to win the Stanley Cup again is as bold as the font that I used to type this sentence.
BTW. Go Wings! I could see a rematch of last year’s Finals.
Don’t you see, Beanie? My blog is so powerful that it is consuming yours!
Any of you guys watch South Park last night? I was waiting for someone to kill Lucas and Spielberg for fucking up Indiana Jones. That was hilarious. We caught them raping a storm trooper.
