In news only slightly more predictable than Lane Kiffin being fired and Al Davis wearing a windbreaker suit to the press conference, Travis Henry was arrested on cocaine charges and the Chicago Cubs lost a playoff game. With such shocking developments like this, will the college football weekend continue that trend or will it be more upsets and surprises. Only Beanie knows for sure
Tonight’s games
Pittsburgh at South Florida - Can my surprise team of 2008 redeem themselves slightly and pull off this upset? Not unless Dave Wannstedt is fired before 7:30.
Oregon State at Utah – Do the Beavers have another upset in their dam? No way. Not against Utah. I mean Utah destroyed a traditional powerhouse in Michigan. When Utah wins, can we all agree that Utah is better than Michigan and Ohio State. I mean, Ohio State lost to USC by 31 and USC lost to Oregon State by 6. So when Utah beats the Beavers by 24, I wonder how many they would beat the Buckeyes by?
Saturday’s games
Penn State at Purdue – Will a Big Ten title be enough for JoePa to finally walk away?
Akron at Kent State – The good old Acme Click Game!!! At what point in their lives to alums of these schools start caring about their team? It seems no student does and the only people I see rooting for either team are guys over 35.
Oklahoma at Baylor – OU is safe at No. 1 for now.
Stanford at Notre Dame – The Irish just may be better than we all though. But how do you think their center feels every time Clay Aiken’s boyfriend puts his hands up his ass?
Kentucky at Alabama – I wouldn’t be surprised if Kentucky wins this game? They haven’t played anyone yet but their defense is the best in the nation (statistically) and Bama is coming of a huge win.
Florida State at Miami (FL) – I hope there is a huge riot (not unlikely) and both programs are suspended for my life time.
Auburn at Vanderbilt – Vandy a top ten team? Maybe, just maybe, after this big win.
Ohio State at Wisconsin – Ohio State got blown out by the only good team they played this year and have struggled against almost every other mediocre team (D I-A) team they have played. Wisconsin struggled to beat Fresno State and pounded to MAC teams before losing to a question mark Michigan team. I’d say a top ten preseason ranking for both teams was a little bit over the top. Wisconsin simply doesn’t lose at home and Ohio State just isn’t that good defensively. Their offense is much better with Pryor (my God I wish he went to Michigan, we’d be undefeated probably b/c no one would know how to stop a white running back and a black quarterback since it’s never been done before). But Chris Wells is more worried this week about getting himself back in the Heisman race than he is about anything else. That kind of selfishness is never good. Suckeye fans start thinking of your excuses now.
Illinois at Michigan – Does anyone know what to expect from Michigan? Will it be the struggled to beat Miami, looked awful against Notre Dame and turned the ball over six times in the first half against Wisconsin? Or will it be the team that took over in the second half against the Badgers? The defense seems to be what they expected at the beginning of the year. Holding Wisconsin to 19 points after six turnovers is impressive. The offense, maybe, is starting to figure itself out. But it’s a young team that has been inconsistent. I think they have found themselves and are going to beat another team that was over hyped in the preseason, but that may be the fan in me talking. They could easily find a way to have 15 turnovers and lose by 35. Nothing would surprise me. However, the comeback win last week set the tone for the Wolverines the rest of the season.
