We are going to take a look at the weekend in college football because it’s such a big weekend. Just think how much bigger it would be if it was two, three, four, or any number great than two years ago. You know, when Michigan and Notre Dame were good teams.
Of course the biggest game of the weekend is Ohio State at USC. If this game goes like everyone thinks it’s going to, OSU will get beat by 55 points and all their cocky, ignorant fans will be left trying to come up with some excuse like “if we would have converted that 3rd-and-27 in the first quarter it would have been a different game.” Now, I don’t think OSU will lose by 55 points but I do think they’ll lose convincingly. I don’t know how you can have any confidence, if you’re an OSU fan, after seeing a bottom level team from the MAC out muscle both your lines and seeing your quarterback not put up better than a 40 rating in his last four games. I think you’ll see a lot more Terrell Pryor late in this game and maybe taking over the starting duties.
Other things you’ll hear from Buckeye Fan if Ohio State loses (I’m giving these out now so I won’t have to hear them after the game)…
“At least we didn’t lose to Utah or App State.”
“Wait til next year. We’ll beat them in Columbus.”
“We can still win the national title with one loss.”
“We’ll still win the Big Ten.”
“I don’t want to hear from you (Michigan fan), you barely beat Notre Dame.” (If Michigan beats Notre Dame.)
“I don’t want to hear from you (Michigan fan), you lost to Notre Dame.” (If Michigan loses to ND.)
“We could have won if Chris Wells was healthy.”
“We could have won if Tressel would have played Pryor more.”
“We’ll still beat Michigan.”
And now, if an Ohio State fan still says this to you, here are the predetermined responses.
“No, you lost to USC. It’s still a loss. Who cares if Michigan lost to App State last year, it was last year, and Utah this year, they aren’t a good team anyway. This was suppose to be your season defining game and you lost by 55. You blew it. Any excuse you come up with isn’t going to change the score or make you feel any better.”
“You really think home field advantage counted for 55 points? Wonder what excuse you’ll come up with when you lose at home?”
“Congrats on winning the fifth best conference in the country. The ACC thinks it’s a joke. Have fun getting blown out in a BCS bowl, again. But I guess you are used to it now.”
“Yeah, but we won.”
“Yeah, we suck.”
“Well, he wasn’t because your awesome, never make a mistake coach left him in a blow out game against a high school team just so he could pad his stats and he ended up getting hurt.”
“But he didn’t.”
“You probably will. Michigan isn’t good this year.”
I hope this helps you Saturday night and Sunday morning.
The other “big” game is Michigan at Notre Dame. Like I said, this normally is the game of the week. The two winningest college football programs in the country and teams with tradition that should make them national title contenders every year. Only they both suck this year. This game has a chance to be the ugliest game every played between schools this big. In fact, I bet the high school game I watch Friday is more fundamentally sound than this one. But since both teams are so bad, it actually could be an entertaining game. As bad as both defenses are, they’ll look like the ‘85 Bears and ‘00 Ravens sine the offenses are even worse. First team to 13 wins this game.
Both teams are playing for their seasons. Michigan needs this win to pad the win total before the Big Ten schedule that starts off tough with Wisconsin and Illinois. Notre Dame needs the win to pad the win total before playing the always tough armed forces – Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Massachusetts Militia – schools that never practice. Who ever wins probably makes it to a bowl game. The loser, more than likely doesn’t. Of course I’ll take Michigan, 17-9.
In other games…
*** Kansas at South Florida *** Strange times in college football when, for the second year in a row, these two teams are ranked in the top 20. Kansas wins easily.
*** East Carolina at Tulane *** Hate Skip Bayless. Hate Lou Holtz. Love Skip Holtz. Weird, yes. ECU is going to mess up somewhere but not here.
*** Georgia at South Carolina *** The Old Ball Coach is good for one big upset a year. I doubt this is it but I wouldn’t be surprised.
*** Oklahoma at Washington *** I can guarantee two things from this game. One, OU wins. Two, if Jake Locker scores, he won’t be throwing the ball up in the air.
*** Wisconsin at Fresno State *** The Big Ten needs this win more than the Badgers. If Fresno wins this one, and Michigan loses, and OSU gets blown out, the Big Ten will be worse than the ACC.
I have to say I stopped reading very early. I hate listening to anyone bash my Bucks. Why in the world would I want to listen to a Michigan fan bash my Bucks? That was probably the most excited you have been to write about Michigan in a long time. And I don’t care if it was last year that Michigan lost to App St when they were ranked 5th in the nation, it is something I will remember forever and always remind Michigan fans of. Also, the MAC gets no credit, I do agree we should have won more convicingly, but I don’t think the MAC gets enough credit. They have come a long way over the passed couple of years.
Michigan will beat ND and if they don’t… they are in for an even longer season that they already had.
The OSU vs USC will be a very close game and afterwards people will be talking about if whether or not they received the Natl Championship game in September. If OSU doesn’t play poorly against Ohio, or they have a bye week like USC, I think the talk is much different going into this weekend. Ohio could have beat Virginia. LET’S GO BUCKS!!!
This may be your best post ever. Well done, sir. I can actually picture some loser like Damman (or W if I knew him) saying all of those things trying to justify why anOSU got embarrassed again. Fantastic.
W, as a big MAC fan, you are wrong. The conference was tits in 2003 when Miami, BG, and NIU were all ranked at some point in the season. The conference has reverted to shittiness once again. My evidence supporting my case is that Miami won the East last year yet failed to qualify for a bowl game.
BG beating a good Pitt team? Ohio going to a bowl game a few years ago? Miami playing it close with Michigan? Ohio playing it close with OSU? Akron blowing out Syracuse? That’s all just off the top on my head. The mid majors are stepping up. They didn’t digress, they are still progressing. It’s not just the Big Ten they are beating so you can’t blame it on the conference.
As for justifying a loss… it’s what any fan does, so being an OSU fan shouldn’t change anything. It makes you feel better about the loss. I didn’t make any excuses when we lost to Florida or LSU, but I did say what we could have done differently to win the game. Sounds likes to me I should be coaching since that is what a good coach should do.
So W, Ohio going to a bowl game two years ago makes the MAC a good conference now? Interesting. In that case, Michigan is a great team because they went to the Rose Bowl two years in a row, two years ago. Thanks. I feel better now.
W, I forgot about those HUGE wins over Syracuse and Pitt. You’re an OSU fan so I know you’re ignorant. Moral victories are for losers. It doesn’t matter if you played a bigger school tough, you still lost.
Case in point, our best team by far, CMU, was absolutely destroyed by Georgia this weekend. Last year, they lost at home to South Dakota State. And they are the MAC’s best.
I wish you could see me doing my hater dance right now. You gotta shake em off.
JBeanie.. don’t be stupid, you know the point I am trying to get across. Ohio themselves doesn’t make the MAC a good conference. Collectively they are a good conference. Michigan is expected to go to a bowl game every year. The MAC gets one team… usually. Theres a difference.
Graig… you claiming I am an OSU fan makes me ignorant is the most ignorant statement I have ever heard. And you are right, moral victories are for losers cause you only have a moral vistory if you lose. Thank you for stating the obvious.
All I am trying to say here is, you cannot base the outcome of the victory of the OSU vs USC game on the fact that OSU didn’t look dominant against Ohio. Remove that game and keep the YSU game, and you have different opinions. I really hope I can come in here monday after OSU wins and rub it in all your faces. Not because I am a filthy ignorant OSU fan, but because you guys are filthy ignorant OSU haters. If they lose, so be it, we lost, it happens, it sucks, I’ll get over it. You guys would feel the passion I do if your team was a national contender every year… HATERS!!!!
Sorry for the longer post but it’s 1 vs 2 here.
I said OSU would give USC a good game. I said everyone just assumes they’ll lose by 55. And I’m not being a hater (even though I hate them, I hate the fans a lot more than I hate the actually team) but how can you have any confidence with they way you quarterback has played? You can’t say don’t look at the Ohio game and OSU has looked good. The fact is the OU game did happen and they looked horrible against a well below average team. A MAC line should never outplay a Big Ten line, ever. That’s the ignorant OSU fan in you talking. Wanting to ignore a bad game and look at only the good game against a D-I-AA team. If that’s what we were allowed to do than I’d say Michigan is the greatest team in the land b/c I’m throwing out the Utah game and most of the Miami game and only looking at the sweet drive they put together on the opening series.
The comments I made about what to expect from OSU fans after the game comes from experience. I’ve heard all them before and you guys can’t just accept a loss b/c a team out played you or you just aren’t as good. Shallow your pride once in a while and look at things objectively.
LSU… better team than us last year… Florida… I would have to say they are a really good team, but OSU thinking it was going to be a cake walk had something to do with it too. Once it gets to this level it is so hard to tell who is better than who talent wise. Sometimes, it doesn’t work out that the better team actually wins. I can look at things objectively. I have no idea who is going to win this game. Yes our QB has looked shaky, but USC has an unproven QB as well. I just want a level playing field on comparisons. USC probably has the better QB but ours has more experience. If OSU loses, I will be pissed and look at why we lost. Every fan makes excuses, just because OSU has more fans than most other school might mean we complain more because we have more fans, but per capita, every team is the same. Good teams have reasons to complain when they lose cause its not accepted, bad teams are used to it. Again, unfair comparisons. I take all the bad talking about OSU and their fans as jealousy. If we didn’t win all the time, we wouldn’t be hated so much.
And Michigan sucks no matter how you look at it. However, it will be interesting to see the recruits RR brings in. Having him as a coach goes against a lot of history for the school up north. Big Ten football is not ment to be played with a spread offense. Bring back Tim Biakabtuka and run his ass up the gut. That’s Big Ten football. You think the SEC and PAC 10 would hold up once the temperature drops to below 50? They’d look and be a lot slower. As much as I am sure you will disagree, I think climate and area of the country you play in, plays a big role in the personality of your conference and team. Play the National Championship game in the North in January and you just gave the Big 10 and 12 a big advantage. When has any kid in the SEC or PAC 10 played in the cold?
I only got through half this post and the comments and stopped. That being said…
Bottom line, everybody hates Ohio State because they are a top five program year in and year out. Michigan fans are jealous because their program is in the shitter. Yes, they have struggled on the big stage in the last couple of years, but they played LSU in New Orleans…you know what, I am not even going to try to defend my Buckeyes for the 1000th time to you people. I will not acknknowledge weak ass amack talk from a Miami Redhawk fan. After OSU dispatches of the pretty boys from So Cal on Saturday night, Mark May, Skip Bayless, their boyfriend JBeanie and the rest of the country can blow it out their ass.
If that’s being an arrogant, obnoxious OSU fan than so be it. W, keep up the good work.
Damman… you are the man…
We might be in trouble now… Beanie’s updated status is now doubtful for the game. I would be very surprised if OSU wins this game without Beanie. OSU and Beanie just let down America again.
Is there anyway to have W banned from commenting? I couldn’t even get through the 4th or 5th chapter of the book he was writing today.
Beanie being doubftul = already have their excuses ready
Pete Carroll is better than Jim Tressel. Period. You don’t like it but it’s true.
Haha Graig… you are an ignoramous. The adults are trying to have a conversation, don’t you have some blocks you can go play with?
Already an excuse? I think that’s a little obvious.
And if you ban me, how is JBeanie going to get to double digit comments everyday? I wish I could ignore you so I never saw your comments come up. JBeanie, is there any way for me to do that?
Just more chances for Brandon “IN” Saine to shine.
Damman… I appreciate your positiveness, I need it right now. When I received the news it felt like someone punched me in the stomach, only I still haven’t caught my breathe. I keep telling myself he’ll still play, but I am not sure how effective he’ll be. If we can win the game with or without a banged up Beanie, I like our chances to run the table even more.
I couldn’t read all the comments because I wanted to shoot myself in the face after reading W and Damman. But W you are a typical OSU ignorant fan saying that sometimes the better team doesnt win and its hard to tell who is better talent wise. The talented team always wins especially when it is at a high level like OSU and USC. upsets happen because the top program takes it easy and plays down to their opponent but when playingtop teamns its talent that wins. When I lived in NC it was easy to cheer on OSU but being in Ohio the fans are the worst and so so objective its pathetic. You should be looking at it subjectively.
HAAATEEERS… the most talented team does not always win… i.e. NYG vs NE Pats in the super bowl. I am looking at it from every angle possible. Bottom line is, Damman is 100% correct, OSU is hated by all who are not fans of OSU. People are jealous of their success. It’s natural to hate the team that does good every year… i.e. The Yankees… who doesn’t hate the Yankees? That’s right, only Yankee fans.
And again… why I am even having this conversation with Michigan fans is beyond me.
Or if you want a more comparable game where the most talented team does not win… see Boise State vs Oklahoma 2 years ago…
I think my total comments for today are more than the total comments than everyone else put together.
Nobody really hates Ohio State, as Beanie said earlier, WE HATE YOU GUYS. And you guys aren’t successful so it has nothing to do with that.
