Before we get to the big news of the day, let’s take a minute to talk about that amazing Wimbledon final from yesterday. Rafael Nadal and Roger Federererererererer are something special. If you didn’t watch this match, you missed out on probably the greatest tennis match of all time. Not only was it the longest played Wimbledon final but with three rain delays it tested each man’s will and emotions. Then there were the points — my goodness were there some points. Remember a few years ago when serves were getting so fast and big that everyone thought the game would just turn into a serve-fest and there would be no rallies. That is not the case and definitely not the case in this match. There were some long amazing points.
I watched the first two sets and it was obvious Federer was not at his best. Then the rain came for a half hour or so, more tennis, then another rain delay. I had to go to a family party at this point and when I came home two hours later I thought I’d check to see who won. Never did I think they’d be in the fifth set tied at 5 games.
I know tennis will never catch on like golf. There are way more recreation golfer than there are tennis players. Even Tiger’s shaving partner Federer couldn’t do for tennis what Tiger did for golf. But maybe, if these type of matches between Federer and Nadal keep happening, there may be at least a little more interest because yesterday it was a treat to watch that final.
Now, on to C.C. Sabathia news. We all knew this day was coming. C.C. will likely be traded this afternoon to Milwaukee. First, if C.C. has to go, I’m glad it’s Milwaukee and not New York or Boston. Second, the Tribe better get good value in return. The last time they traded their ace mid-season (Bartolo Colon) they got three All-Stars in Brandon Phillips, Cliff Lee and Grady Sizemore. It’s hard to expect the same thing, but Cleveland has to make sure they get who they want. You and I have no idea who these prospects are coming to Cleveland for C.C. so we have to trust Shapiro and his staff did their homework on them. They shouldn’t have to settle for someone they don’t feel strongly about. In addition to the two or three prospects, Cleveland should be able to get one major leaguer. A J.J. Hardy would be nice. But who knows. We don’t know if the prospects will actually become good players and we don’t when that may happen. We don’t We don’t know anything but C.C. Sabathia is leaving and the Indians will finish in last place.
Another I don’t know, should I be mad at C.C. for not accepting the contract extension (I believe it was 4-years, $76 million) in spring training, or should I be mad at the Indians for not continuing to rework the contract and find something that works? There can be cases made both ways for both sides. But when I think about it, I think I’ll still root for C.C. and Milwaukee. Of course, if C.C. moves to NY or Boston in the offseason, I won’t be.
Are you ready for some football?!?!!?!?!?!?!? A Monday night party!?!?!?!?!?!!? It’s the Gladiators taking on the Georgia Force tonight at 8. LET’S GO GLADS!!!
Remember, email me (bhovey15@yahoo.com) and creepy things you say this weekend for our Creep Off.
Fratello
Doesn’t look like the Indians are getting any major leaguers. It’s going to be 4 prospects including LaPorta who is the centerpiece. He sounds like the real deal as a hitter, but doesn’t really have a position. It will be awhile before we see what kind of deal we made.
I will root for C.C. I thought about being angry with him for turning down the contract, but who would want to stay with this rag tag bunch in last place where they score 2 runs a game for you?
Tennis sucks. Remember back in the 90’s when all that the WWF had were Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels? There are only so many times that you can watch that match and still have people care. The same thing can be said for Federer and Capri pants. Until they start developing charismatic up and comers, the sport will remain deader than Bud Collins.
Fuck the Gladiators. Go Destroyers and their worst record in the league this past season after making the Arena Bowl last year.
Graig – you’re an idiot. Don’t compare tennis to wrestling. If you can’t enjoy that match, then there’s something wrong with you. And to solidify your idiot standing, you come out with a classic “fuck the… (what ever team)” just to use the word fuck and hate another Cleveland team.
Don’t judge me, I’ve been a diehard Destroyers fan since the playoffs last year and stopped watching this year.
I’m amazed that the women’s final was manlier than the men’s. What a sport!
So with Laporta coming to the tribe, if and when he plays for the Aeros, who wants to go check this shmuck out?
LaPorta is supposedly going to Buffalo.
I just hope the trade for hyped up LaPorta turns out to be as good as the trade for hyped up Marte, meaning at least one of the other guys we get, who we’ve never heard of, turns out to be a solid ball player.
W, I’d love to go see this guy play at Akron, that’s where he is going according to everything I’ve read. Thursday is $1 beer night. That could be fun. I’ll wear my C.C. jersey with Sabathia crossed out and LaPorta written in.
Wouldn’t it be sweet if LaPorta worn #52?
Seal, I thought we’d hear from you on this subject. No opinion?
You’re right, he is going to start in Akron. Supposedly the player to be named later is going to be the second best prospect in this deal. It probably is going to be Taylor Green, Single-A 3B. He was their minor league player of the year.

Not too much to say… pretty sad day in cleveland if you ask me, see our best franchise player (besides grady) leave, but what can you do? Was hoping to get two of their top prospects (preferrible escobar, who is supposed to be a sweet shortstop so we can get rid of peralta) instead of just one.
You cant say you arent gonna miss seeing a guy that looks like he eats and drinks as much as we do go out and dominate for a cleveland team. Gotta agree that atleast hes not in a yankee or red sox uniform… yet…
Go Brewers i guess?
Go Brewers. (If I was a girl or gay, I’d add a frown face and just say go Brewers with a long, drawn out whisper, dropping your head and shrugging your shoulders.)
