Mother’s Day was yesterday. It’s a great time to honor and thank your mother for everything she’s done in your life. It’s a good time to try and make your mom proud. Let’s see if anyone did that this weekend.
> Does one big win make your mom proud enough to over look a life time of douschiness? I say no. Sergio Garcia won The Players Championship yesterday. It was his first win in three years and the first time he didn’t pee his pants more times than missed putts in a final round. But let’s remember, Tiger wasn’t playing and it’s still Sergio, the whinny, complaining, ugly, yellow pant wearing Spaniard who we all hate. I’m pretty sure winning The Players Championship doesn’t make up for the embarrassment he has caused her over the years. In fact, I’m pretty sure she doesn’t even know where Sergio is.
> Reports are in (what took so long) that OJ Mayo received thousands of dollars in cash and other stuff while he was in high school and at USC. Surprise, surprise. Who didn’t see this story coming? OJ is a punk who’d rather get kicked out of his last high school basketball game for the attention it brings himself than be on the floor celebrating a state title with his teammates. I would say Mrs. Mayo (although it’s probably not even Mrs. or Mayo) is upset and hurt by her son’s actions. But I’m sure she is proud of him. This took the burden of child support off her hands.
> Eric Gagne is like Frank at the bars… just can’t close the deal. Gagne, in a move that as expected as the story about Mayo receiving money and as unexpected a Sergio winning a big event, was yanked from the Brewers’ closer job. I’m not sure if Gagne should be more embarrassed by how fast he fall off the face of the earth, how his once intimidating facial hair now looks worse than most homeless men or how his mother would be a more affective closer.
> These college baseball players from Akron and Kent State sure made their mothers proud. Who wouldn’t be proud of their son’s ability to strip down fold himself into a bat bag or walk around the field like a marching band drum major. Drum major’s moms aren’t even proud of their kid being a drum major. And I don’t know what is going on in the picture with the shirtless guy with the arrow pointing down. Baseball players are a weird bunch. (Oh, this was during a two-hour rain delay if that helps.)
> J Beanie’s mother is very proud of him. He started a sports blog where two people who don’t even know each other can spend the whole day arguing pointlessly with each other for the pure entertainment of the four other people who check the site. I LOVE YOU, MOMMY!
(See, no Cavs talk. I’m just not sure what to make of the series. Did the Cavs really play that much better or is that Boston all of a sudden is more horrible on the road than Sergio is on Sundays playing with Tiger. You had to expect the Cavs to win Game 3. Every series in the second round went like that. The real test is tonight’s Game 4. I have to work late again so I’ll have the challenge of avoid the score until I get home around 11-12 to watch the game on DVR.)
