Not the best weekend on the sport scene in Cleveland. The Cavs again looked like they would lose to the Detroit Sparks and the Browns lost a game they could have, should have, won.
The Cavs game was about as boring as a basketball game can get. It was sloppy, turnovers were as frequent as Boston fans are annoying, superstars scored like they were Scot Pollard and LeBron was wearing a jacket he must have borrowed from Michael Jackson. I have no idea how it was 80-70. Seemed more like 165-40. Hurry LeBron, Cleveland needs your finger.
The Browns game was just as bad as the Cavs. The final play was the call ultimately did them in. As bad of a call as it was, it shouldn’t have even come down to it. First let me vent about the call on Winslow’s should have been game winning touchdown catch. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A GAME WINNING TOUCHDOWN CATCH. Winslow made an incredible grab between two defenders, got hit, still managed to get one foot inbound before getting shoved out, yet the ref calls it a no catch. Not even a no catch because he was hit out. I don’t understand that. He obviously made the catch and would have been in bounds had he not got pushed. K2 got leveled and still managed to get one foot in bounds for God sake. How does the ref not see that? I think he was just watching K2’s feet and didn’t even see him get hit. If that’s the case, how does the back official not come in and say, “wait, he was hit” and then talk about it before ruling on such an important play. They got it wrong and there’s no way argument about it.
As bad as that call was, the Browns loss this game long before the final play. Turnovers and penalties. Those are two things that everyone knows wins and loses football games. It’s such a cliché that it gets annoying but it’s true. When you have two turnovers and fall behind 14-0 before fans finish their first beer, you are in trouble. Add another turnover that lead to another touchdown in the second quarter and that’s 21 points that Arizona didn’t even have to work for. After two possessions, I thought it was 1999 again.
Toss in a stupid delay of game penalty on a third down stop that kept a touchdown drive alive, a personal foul on Arizona’s last drive, a headbutt to backup the Browns on their final drive and a whole bunch more in-between and you my friend got a big ‘L.’
Side note: How annoying was that referee? Where did the NFL pull this guy out from? As anyone ever seen him before? Was he hired just to fill a quota? Someone help me out here.
It was a pretty crummy weekend for sports for me. The Browns and Cavs looking like the Browns and Cavs of old and Ohio State backs into the National Championship game. Give me a break. A lot more ranting about that tomorrow. The Browns should be 8-4 right now instead of 7-5. Now they go to New York to play the Jets. A game that should be a win but you know it won’t be easy. NYJ beat Pittsburgh and a road game at 4:00 is never easy. It would be a lot nice to go into that game knowing they are tied with Jacksonville at 8-4 for the last two playoff spots instead of 7-5 and tied with Tennessee for the final spot. But turnovers, penalties and a horrible screw job cost the Browns that chance.
Yeah, that last call was questionable, but the Browns didn’t deserve to win that game. They were lucky it was even that close. If they want to be a playoff team they have to eliminate the turnovers and penalties, especially the retard penalties like the ones comitted by Fraser and Bodden. The Browns are going to be all right, they just need to not kill themselves with stupidity. I mean as bad as they played, they still could have and maybe should have won the game. That is the positive I am taking out of this game. I think next week is a must win to stop the bleeding before it really starts and to get the confidence back. Oh yeah I almost forgot, GO BUCKS! I look forward to your rant tomorrow.
Don’t even complain about the referees, that is a total cunt move. If you want to bitch about that last play which was a judgment call, you must also consider the two reviews that somehow went the Browns way even though any retard could see that they were the wrong calls. That ref should be shot in the face by Peter North.
They are a terrible road team.
YES!! I am glad you brought up the ref. I think his favorite movie of all time is the Ladies’ Man because he did a dead on impersonation of Tim Meadows throughout the whole game. Also, let me get this straight, Missouri gets to the Big 12 title game and loses so they fall into oblivion but Kansas and Georgia never even make it to a title game and get into a BCS bowl??? I bet Missouri wishes they lost to Kansas. It is better to never make your conference title game then to make the title game and lose. College football is a joke. Ah one more thing, I work at Jonny Malloys which is a sports bar and every week i had to watch the OSU game with OSU fans and i thought that was the worst thing ever but i found one more thing worse – watching a game with osu fans rooting for a team to lose so that the luckeyes can back into a title game that they don’t deserve to play in. Anyone want to bet me that LSU wins by 13?
Illinois?? Are you kidding me?? Illinois?
Scott, thanks for the comments but a little early on the college football rant. That’s for tomorrow. Leon the Ref. I love it.
And Graig, If I want to bitch about the ref’s call I can. I mentioned that it wasn’t the only thing that cost the Browns the game but there is no doubt Winslow comes down in bound if he doesn’t get hit. I thought that was obvious. As for the replay challenges, I agree I don’t think Jones intercepted the ball but no touched Braylon when he was on the ground.
As bad as it sucks to lose the game on a horrible judgement call by the ref, at least we didn’t lose it because our coach doesn’t know the rules to the game.
Also, not to be a jerk, but how does Gregg Williams not tell Joe Gibbs about playing the first play of the game with only 10 players? I like the tribute to Jones but don’t you think the head coach should know about it? Even the Lions think Redskins season is going downhill fast.
Read my post today, my boys are the worst coached team in all of football.
That ref was busting out “Fourf down”’s as well. Very professional. Tell me this, did that safety NOT run into Braylon’s leg causing him to flip and fall down??? Just a dreadul job by Leon the Ref. When Dan Dierdorf sees it, it happened.
[...] A horrible call caps a horrible weekend – J-Beanie [...]
braylon diving for the ball to make the catch caused him to fall and flip. by the way. also i will repost my CollFB rant tomorrow as well.
