Cavs close; Another Steeler to hate

Before we get to Steelers Week talk, let’s discuss the Cavs last night.

I watched most of the first half and then drifted in and out of sleep in the second but did see the final 4 minutes or so. First of all, I thought it was a pretty gutsy performance. As mentioned in the comments yesterday, the Cavs are a horrible team on the second day of back-to-back games.

Last night, they played like a team tired from the night before. They were sloppy, had way to many turnovers, lazy on defense and couldn’t stop anyone down low (How does no one foul Boozer hard? Did everyone forget that he stole from a blind man? And who the hell is Paul Millsap? The Cavs made him look like Shaq.) LeBron didn’t look dominate and at times didn’t look energized but still put up a triple-double (should have been his second straight game with one) by the third quarter.

Despite all that, Cleveland had a chance to win at the end. LeBron hit is only three of the game, a ridiculous step back, fall away jumper that no one really knows how LBJ makes it but just that he always seems to when he needs to, to tie the game. But then the Cavs looked lost. There were still six seconds left. What did they expect Utah to do? Take a knee and run the clock out and hope they win the coin toss in overtime? They let Deron Williams take the inbound pass and go the whole floor in five seconds for basically an uncontested layup. He blew right by Damon Jones, who I think was doing a handshake/dance with himself. Z was there near the hoop but never was a real threat to stop him. And LeBron never cut off the lane, deciding to instead take one of those hard half step scaring moves towards Williams in what he could have only hope would force Wiliams into a third grade girl reaction. Not quite text book defense for a team a defensive team.

But it was still a solid effort last night. The fact that the Cavs were close in the second game of a back-to-back game out west is more impressive when you look at who contributed off the bench. (I use the word “contributed” very loosely) The Three D’s (or the 2 1/2 D’s more realistically), Devin Brown, Damon Jones and Dwayne Jones were the only non starters to play. What a solid bench we have.

On to the Browns quickly. It’s pretty obvious that Browns fans hate Steeler fans. Part of it is the long time rivalry, part of it is jealousy since we can’t beat them, part of it is just that Pittsburgh is a worthless town and they have fans that are as ignorant as Ohio State and Cincinnati fans. Not to mention their players are about as classy as wearing jeans and chewing tobacco and spitting it on the floor at a black tie party. From Hines Ward always smiling like a girl who just got the pony she always wanted for Christmas to Joey Porter picking fights with worthless running backs before games and calling tight ends homos, we hate them all.

Now there’s a new guy to add to the list – James Farrior. Farrior was the guy Kellen Winslow hit after the play last year to draw a 15-yard penalty. The play prompted Porter to call K2 a homosexual slur after the game (I don’t remember what the exact word was.) Farrior was asked about the hit and he said he had no grudges and there was no bad blood carried over. Let’s look at his comments and see if that’s how he really feels.

“Last year when he took the cheap shot? There’s no bad blood. It’s part of football. It was a little dirty hit, but I don’t really hold grudges against anybody. I leave all that stuff on the field. But he better have his head on a swivel, though. Every time we go up against those guys, I’ll be looking for him.”

So to clarify, there’s no bad blood but he called it a cheap shot. He doesn’t hold grudges but he called it a dirty hit. He leaves that stuff on the field but K2 better keep his head on a swivel because he will be looking for him. James, it sounds like you do hold grudges, there is bad blood and you don’t leave stuff on the field. Boy these Pittsburgh guys are really smart and good with words. I don’t know if he is trying to be the next Joey Porter or what but I hope K2 runs him over Sunday.

Just more reasons to hate Pittsburgh.
