** Michigan State is Michigan’s little brother. I think is a pretty well accepted statement. After Michigan’s 28-24 comeback victory on Saturday, Mike Hart said,
“Sometimes, you get your little brother excited when you’re playing basketball – let them get the lead. And then you come back.”
Nothing wrong with that. It’s true. As the little brother in my family I can attest to that. Big brothers always win. (Well, until recently when I’ve become better at everything than my older brother) Michigan has won six in a row and 10 of 12 over MSU. Every time I talk to other people about Michigan-Michigan State, the little brother comparison is used. The best part is MSU’s coach Mark Dantonio’s response,
“Does Hart have a little brother? Or is he the little brother?”
What does that even mean. It’s like the third-grade kid response when someone insults you but also said the truth and you don’t have a comeback so you do the “I know you are but what am I” line. MSU’s quarterback Brian Hoyer said Hart’s comments would be bulletin board material. Really? You need that line as motivation? How about you put up the scores of the last six games. That should be better motivation.
** Speaking of college football, I wasn’t too bad on my predictions for the weekend. I only missed the LSU-Alabama game but Bama should have won. I had the Oregon, FSU, Kansas, OSU and Michigan wins. Yes you can use my predictions to your own benefits whenever you see fit.
** It’s Steeler week in Cleveland. I’ll have to say something about the game everyday. (Speaking of little brother/big brother comparisons, this is a pretty good example) For once, the Steelers game is about more then just hating Pittsburgh. It’s about that that too, but this game, as crazy at it sounds, has first place on the line. The Browns haven’t won in Pittsburgh since Tim Couch and Willie Green were playing. If there was ever a time for the Browns to beat the Steelers, this would be the time. The Browns are actually competitive so at least there’s a chance. Of course, seeing Roethlisberger throw 5 touchdowns in 13 competitions didn’t help the confidence level. I’m just hoping for a close game at the very least.
** ESPN’s E:60 is doing a piece on Kellen Winslow tonight. From what the Plain Dealer said about the story, it should be good viewing.
** So why did Curt Schilling get all high school girlie on his teammates writing them sentimental good-bye letters? He signed a one-year deal with Boston. Can athletes please stop saying good-byes and what not before they actually are gone? Brett Favre thought those letters were ridiculous. Wait until you actually retire, or traded or whatever before those good-bye interviews and stories.
** College basketball started last night with No. 3 Memphis pounding Tennessee-Martin (wasn’t he a country singer). Not going to lie, I know next to nothing about college ball at this point. That will change in the next coming weeks but I do know that Grand Valley State should never beat Michigan State like they did last night. The other thing I know it’s a back handed compliment to be named the Associated Press’ presseason All-America leading voter getting two years in a row, a la Tyler’s Hansbrough. I would think in this day and age of kids jumping at any chance to go to the NBA, no one would stick around for a second year after being a preseason All-America. That is, unless you aren’t that good, are white, and didn’t finish on the postseason All-American team.
** Just went outside to take a phone call and it’s snowing. Awesome.
** Did you know the PGA golf season just ended yesterday? I thought it’s been over for weeks. Whatever tournaments were held in the past two months must have felt like the NHL.
The Browns are going to get destroyed now that they are playing a playoff team for the first time in over a month. And it will be good for you d-bags to be put in your place.
You are the 2006 Jets, beating up on your weak ass schedule. Playing the Steelers twice, Pats, and whoever finishes 7-9 to win the NFC West is quite a testament to how good this team really is.
This coming from Mr. Redskin fan. Speaking of weak-ass schedules the Redskins wouldn’t even be a .500 team in the AFC. They played the same Dolphins the Browns did and got by on a field goal. And if I saw the scoreboard right it took OT for your Skins to get by that terrible Jets team your speaking of. A week after getting 52 points rammed up their a$$ by the Pats. Very solid.
Last time I checked, the Cowboys, Giants, Lions, Packers, and Pats were all playoff contenders with a combined record of 35-6!!! Good call.
This isn’t a Redskins vs. Browns issue. Please stop assuming that. Besides the Pats and Lions games, I know the Skins aren’t good enough to blow anyone out and aren’t bad enough to be blown out. I’m just saying that I watch a TON of NFL each week and the Browns do nothing for me. Yes, the offense is good now but we’ll want and see until this weekend. The defense is one of the worst units in the NFL that will likely leave you guys with a 1-7 road record this year. Even Joe Gibbs would hang 28 on this pathetic d.
They aren’t better than Tennessee or Jacksonville. And the games with Buffalo and Baltimore will likely decide the possible last playoff spot.
Last time I checked the Redskins were 1-3 against these “playoff contenders” with wins against the Jets and Dolphins and I’m guessing the shitty Eagles a time or two. So what’s the point of playng these teams if you just get your a$$ kicked anyway. I know the Browns D is pathetic, and I know even if they were to make the playoffs this year it would be an early exit. But they’re way ahead of the Jets. Between DA and Quinn, one of those guys will be head and shoulders above Pennington. And I’ll take Braylon and Jerivicous (spelling?) over Cotchery or Coles any day. Plus, assuming Winslow is able to walk next year, he’ll be a top pass catcher. So if you can average 24 points a game, for the most part you should always come out around .500 which is a dream for the Jets.
You’re right, Derek Anderson has proven a lot in his illustroius NFL career. Being Charlie Frye’s backup says a lot.
Coles and Cotchery are very underrated. Although Joe Jurevicius has played a lot better since his kid died. What? Too soon? That was like 5 years ago already!!!
All I’m saying is that the Redskins would beat the Browns 9 out of ten times. The defense is too good. You lost to the Raiders. We’ve lost at GB, at NE, and to the Giants. I respect your love for your team, but be realistic. You do not have a playoff team.
I forgot to address this earlier, but you mention how great the AFC is. Really? The NFC/AFC head to head is 20-20 this year. Besides NE, Indy, and the team that always gang-rapes the Browns including this weekend, who else is any good??? I can give you Dallas, NYG, GB, Detroit, New Orleans, and some sort of combo of Tampa/Washington as all quality teams.
Please end this nonsense between Graig and GF’s brother. Their arguments go nowhere – are you guys really arguing between the Browns and the Redskins? Speak about the pot calling the kettle black. Anyways, the little brother comment still rings true – considering how you have stopped playing anything competitive against me except for tennis last year where I won 7-6, 6-4 and Madden where I have beaten you the three times we have played by a combined like 8 points. I dominate the little brother.
