The weekly weekend preview was going to not appear this week but, come on, how could I do that to you, my loyal reader(s). (I only put the plural form in paraphrases since there may or may not be more than one reader to this blog.
I’m pretty much fed up with college football. I mean Ohio State is No. 1 by default. They’ve played absolutely no one. Part of that is the Big Ten is awful this year and part of it is because they feel the need to give the “privilege” to every MAC team in Ohio to come to Ohio Stadium and play the all powerful, all mighty Buckeyes. Good work OSU.
Then there is South Florida. Good job Bulls. Get everyone’s hopes up that you will go undefeated, play in the National Championship game and single handedly make the NCAA go to a playoff format. Only you lose to Rutgers because you can’t stop a trick play. Isn’t that all the Big East does, trick plays? Thanks a lot Bulls. You officially ruined the college football season for me. (Actually AppState did that a long time ago.)
You really know something is wrong in college football when SFU became the third No. 2 ranked team to lose in three weeks. Looks like BC will lose next week.
You really really know something is wrong when College GameDay is at the University of Kentucky and they aren’t at Rupp Arena. I mean for crying out loud, Kentucky has played in the biggest game of the week for three straight weeks. What the hell is going on here!?!?!?!
To continue the “what’s wrong with college football” examples, there’s Cincinnati vs Pittsburgh and the Bearcats are heavy favorites. I didn’t even know ‘Nati had a Division I-A football team until this year.
USC and Notre Dame’s annual rivalry game is basically meaningless. Wasn’t it just two years ago this was the game of the year?
Buffalo at Syracuse in what is being dubbed the worst college football game ever played. Remember when the ‘Cuse would just roll by teams like this?
Michigan and Illinois play in a game with Big Ten implications… for both teams!!! (It will be interesting to see how much of the Michigan I can watch. I’m sure I’ll be at a bar, or at least a friends house, Saturday night to watch the Indians game. But Michigan plays at the same time. How hated would I be if I made a bar put the Michigan game on, even on just one TV? Would I be able to walk out of there?)
Man is this college football year frustrating. But I guess that’s what makes it fun.
Oh, and the NFL isn’t much better this weekend. No Browns game so I’ll be spending Sunday carving pumpkins and decorating cookies. And yes, I’m serious about that. What should I do? Watch Baltimore at Buffalo, Arizona at Washington? I don’t think so. I’d rather watch Buffalo verse Syracuse. Maybe at 4:00 I’ll tune into Minnesota at Dallas. That has a chance to save the day. Who am I kidding? The only thing that will save the day is mom’s spaghetti and me winning the pumpkin carving contest.
Enjoy a mediocre football weekend. But at least there’s still playoff baseball. Saturday’s game should be a good one and the Tribe needs to win it. If it goes to a Game 7, enjoy the Boston-Colorado World Series. If you don’t watch Game 6 live on Fox, don’t expect to catch the highlights on ESPN. They will be on the 156th straight hour of Yankee coverage. Yeah, if you haven’t heard, Joe Torre is no longer their manager.
Go Tribe!!!
Buffalo isn’t nearly as bad as they used to be. Shit, they beat the Fightin’ Frank Solich’s two weeks ago. Turner Gill is already being rumored to replace Callahan at Nebraska. Did you ever think you’d be alive to see the coach at BUFFALO get promoted to Husker Nation???
I hate Ohio State just as much as you do, but don’t criticize their schedule without looking in the mirror. You guys play the same MAC schools and either Notre Dame or some shitty BCS school (ie. Vandy).
You can’t hold it against Michigan that Notre Dame was God awful this year. Our other “shitty BCS school” was Oregon. And one MAC school to OSU’s 2.
and Appo State…
A really fun game tomorrow is going to Texas Tech at Missoura. First to 50 points.
