Now what will Romeo Crennel do? There are only two sides to a coin but the Browns now have three quarterbacks.
Brady Quinn finally ended his hold out and will be in camp this morning. As reported in yesterday’s post, Crennel said he may just flip a coin to decide his starting quarterback for the exhibition opener. That may work for the first game since Quinn might not play at all, but what about the next one? And the one after that? And on Sept. 9 against the Steelers?
You would think by then someone, anyone, would start to establish himself as the starting quarterback. That probably won’t be the case. Both Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson are so perfectly mediocre I can’t see either one clearly being a head of the other. And Quinn will be in the hunt because he is the most gifted of the quarterbacks. Looks like Crennel will either have to find a three sided coin, play rock, paper scissors, or man up and pick a quarterback.
I don’t think Quinn will start until Week 8 in St. Louis (after their bye week and when the Browns are sitting at a 1-5 record). But even after missing some 15 or so practices, you got to think he has a chance to start right a way. I mean he is only going up against Frye and Anderson. I hate to be so negative on those two but if neither of them is having a camp like a starting NFL quarterback should be, Quinn can catch up to them quickly.
I honestly don’t know what I want to happen with the quarterbacks. Quinn is the most gifted but he missed so much of camp I can’t see him playing right away. Sometimes I think I want to because the other options are Frye and Anderson. Sometimes I think he needs to wait because we’ve see what happens to rookie/inexperienced quarterbacks with the Browns. There’s no doubt it will be Quinn’s team next year the question is just when do you hand it to him. I don’t know and the head coach will only know if he finds a three sided coin.
