Random Thoughts now that the season is over

Some more random thoughts as the day goes on…

The worst part about the Cavs being swept in the NBA Finals is that there has been and will be complete coverage about how great the Spurs are and how bad the Cavs are until the draft.

Not looking forward to those Sports Illustrated commercials celebrating the Spurs title as they show clips of Tony Parker making lay up after lay up.

Damon Jone’s three at the end of the game might have been the costliest meaningless three-pointer in NBA Finals history. The spread was 3. Thanks to that shot, San Antonio did not cover.

Why did LeBron name his new born son Bryce Maximus? Nothing wrong with the name until you learn LeBron named him Maximus because his favorite movie is Gladiator. Should have just said he named him that because he is going to be strong and all mighty.

And why was he born at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital? That place is a second tier hospital. But it is right by my grandparents old house. Yippy!

Can the Indian’s please score some runs for C.C tonight. He has pitched 18 consecutive scoreless innings. During that time the Tribe has supported him with the grand total of one run.

Anybody else find it weird that the Indians have played the Marlins and Braves in back-to-back series? If you are slow and didn’t pick it up, the Indians played the Braves in the 1995 World Series and the Marlins in the 1997 World Series.

What a jerk move by the Marlins to hold a ceremony honoring the 1997 team before last night’s game. Just adding insult to injury. No one on either team was on there in 1997.

Speaking of that, I can’t believe the Marlins have two World Series rings. That is a crime against baseball.

Hopefully, Cleveland fans will now support the Indians like they did the Cavs. The Tribe is in first place and it should be an exciting summer and fall for them.

Derek Anderson will be the opening day starter for the Browns.

Brady Quinn will start by Week 8.

The words “Let’s go to Chris Berman” should never be followed by “at the U.S. Open Championship.” There’s something not right about Boomer doing golf and not football.

Nick Dougherty, the U.S. Open leader after Day 1 and -2, will not finish in the top 30.

Justin Rose will win the U.S. Open.

That’s if he’s not playing with Tiger on the weekend.

Stories like this are pretty funny.

Let’s Try to Dwell on the Positive

Well, that went about as expected. As much as I hoped for the best, I knew the worst was coming. As positive as I tried to stay I knew the outcome was going to be negative. I knew this day was coming.

There was a lot of bad in the final Game of the NBA Finals for the Cavaliers, as there was all series, but we don’t dwell on that. We won’t dwell on the fact that the first time the Cavs had the lead in the entire series in the second half came in the fourth quarter of Game 4 at 63-60 with six minutes left. We won’t dwell on the fact that it was 63-60 with just six minutes to play. We won’t dwell on the fact the only reason the Cavs didn’t go in the record books as lowest scoring team in NBA Finals history is because of a 30-point fourth quarter when down 30 already and a meaningless last second three-pointer when Tony Parker was already rising the MVP trophy. We won’t dwell on LeBron’s incredibly stupid turnovers like dribbling the ball off his knee and not catching an outlet pass that killed any comeback chance. We won’t dwell on the fact that the Spurs took four shots in one possession and took about a minute and a half off the clock, meaning the Cavs, just like last year against the Pistons, couldn’t get a rebound when it mattered. We won’t dwell that no one has any reason why Shannon Brown doesn’t play all playoffs but was playing in the fourth quarter last night (I wanted him to be in and play a lot more but if you don’t play all post season and you get put in with less than two minutes left what is the point?). We won’t dwell on any of those facts.

I’ll just mention two things that show just how bad the series was. All series long I read about how ugly the games were and how horrible the basketball was. Even Mike Breen, the play-by-play guy, didn’t want to be there and said so during Game 2. Dan Patrick said it looked like recreational basketball and should come with a warning label. I didn’t want to believe that. I wanted to think that my Cavaliers where in the NBA Finals and everyone was enjoying it as much as I was. I know now that’s not the case. During last night’s game, when it was something like 4-6 in the second quarter, some of my buddies where more interested in finding another buddy on MySpace.com than they were in watching the game. Honestly, there was five guys around my computer looking him up, and all the hot girls from high school we haven’t seen in a while, while the NBA Finals were on.

Next example. During one commercial break my brother switched the TV over to the Game Show Network and Chain Reaction. (If you’ve never seen Chain Reaction I suggest you tune in, GSN at 10:00 on weeknight, or play online at http://www.gsn.com/chainreaction. It’s addicting. You won’t be disappointed. Trust me.) Well, after watching one round, everyone wanted to keep it on Chain Reaction instead of the NBA Finals.

When MySpace and Chain Reaction are more interesting than the NBA Finals, something isn’t right. We could dwell on all that and be negative until the Cavs pick in the draft (oh wait, we don’t have a first-rounder. Thank you Yuri Welsch) but what’s the point. No one expected the Cavs to beat the Pistons and reach the NBA Finals and we did. I’m happy with that. No point in being negative when the Spurs are obviously the best team in the NBA. I’ll take our butt-whipping and come back next year stronger and more experienced.

I’m not going to dwell on the fact the Cavs were swept in the NBA Finals. At least the sweep should put an end to the debate “where the Cavs the worse team to reach the NBA Finals.” The sweep puts an enthusiastic yes on it. Now maybe my life will get back to regular and I won’t have to stay up until midnight or later or go to the bar with my brother who is in town for only a few days, stay up to 2:00 am, get pulled over by a cop on the way for not going around him when stop in the middle of the street, get a flash light shined at us, asked “what are you doing?”, answering “going home” and the jerk cop saying “OK, well I’m on a call” and walk away. I can finally go back to going to bed at 9:30. So yes, the Cavs were swept in the NBA Finals. So what? I’m not going to dwell on that. I’m going to dwell on the fact the Cavs were actually in the NBA Finals.
