The Cleveland Cavaliers are the Eastern Conference Champions. Think about that for a second. Let it soak in. Say it to yourself again… The Cleveland Cavaliers are the Eastern Conference Champions. Now say it out loud. Hell, yell it. The Cleveland Cavaliers are the Eastern Conference Champions.
Did you see LeBron James holding the trophy? How nice was that to see? No Cleveland athlete has hand their hands on a trophy for years. But now the Cavs have some hardware. And us fans can have the shirts, hats, sweatshirts and posters saying the same fact… The Cleveland Cavaliers are the Eastern Conference Champions. That might be what I’m most excited about. Getting my own Eastern Conference Champions t-shirt. I already have it ordered.
Did you notice that the trophy went right to LeBron. Not owner Daniel Gilbert. Not coach Mike Brown. Not GM Danny Ferry. It was straight to LeBron and when he picked up that silver ball and raised it above his head, the moment spoke for itself.
Talking to everyone last night the only thing anyone could say about the game, the series, the season, was unbelievable. I can’t believe the Cavs are going to the NBA Finals. Just look at this picture.

Did you ever think this would happen? Honestly, did you? Even I, who predicted the Cavs to go to the NBA Finals did really think this would happen.
I look at that picture and just smile. Tears actually build up in my eyes. It’s that special.
Or how about this photo.

LeBron leaping into the arms of Ilgauskas. If that doesn’t sum up what this win means nothing will. Z has been through it all. He was on the last non-LeBron Cavs team to reach the playoffs and now this. Inbetween he was on a lot of horrible teams, had a lot of surgery, missed a lot of games and had a lot of personal problems. But now, he, along with the rest of the Cavs, is going to the NBA Finals. I know some people don’t like Z and think we over paid to keep him last year but how can you not feel good for someone like that now.
I dare you to go on to cavs.com or www.cleveland.com/cavs/photos and look at all the picture galleries and not smile, or get excited, or yell out to yourself, “Let’s Go Cavs!” It’s impossible. What a great feeling.
As for the game itself…

Daniel “Boobie” Gibson. ‘Nough said.
He became a man in Game 4 but last night he went down in history. Every three he took was a dagger into the Piston’s hearts. Each one cutting a little deeper, a little more painful. His fourth one of the game, which put the Cavs up 15 was the official time of death for the Pistons.
The unofficial time of death was the 7:44 mark of the fourth quarter. The ugliest man alive picked up his sixth personal foul and then two technicals on top of it. Rasheed could have stopped after the foul or even one T, but he was going to get his money’s worth. He knew the season was over. He knew he wasn’t going to play again this year so might as well go out in his own, ugly style. Rasheed getting kicked out was his way of saying he given up. The Pistons were quick to follow. To prove it, Damon Jones, yes Damon Jones, made in uncontested lay-up moments later on a pump fake move from the corner. Any other time he would have been fouled or would have never been that close to the basket, but now the Pistons were done. They gave up.
During the Rasheed crybaby pout routine, Steve Kerr said something very interesting.
“I think what we are seeing is an Eastern Conference Era starting to crumble here.”
He’s right and wrong. The Piston’s era is crumbling but it’s because the Cavs took sledgehammers to it and brought them down. The Piston reign over the East is over. There’s a new King on the Throne.
I’m watching the game on DVR right now on Sunday morning and I’m still getting chills and smiles. Boobie just hit his fifth three at the 6:49 mark of the fourth quarter. I’m so glad I have this game on DVR. It will never be erased.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are going to the NBA Finals. Say it again and say it a lot. They will have a huge challenge in taking on the San Antonio Spurs but we will worry about that later in the week. For now, it’s time to enjoy the Eastern Conference Championship. What a game! What a series! What a feeling! What a moment! What a team! Let’s Go Cavs! One final time, say it with me. Don’t read it. Say it out loud. THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS ARE THE EASTERN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS
Cleveland Cavaliers Plain Dealer Edition
Congrats to LeBron James and the rest of the Cleveland Cavaliers team for becoming the 2007 NBA Eastern Conference Champions!
Few things I’ve ever seen on an online newspaper site have shown such a true respect and understanding of the radic…
You’re right, I did well up when I saw the video and pics of Z and LeBron hugging it out.
This wonderful dream is not over though, we CAN best the Spurs. This season started out so terribly but has turned into one of the most special things I’ve ever seen. Let’s keep it rolling.
